Lesson Objective
During this lesson, the learner will compensate for a crosswind while landing by using a side slip.
Regulatory Requirement
Pre-Solo pilot (Student Pilot and Transition Pilots): 14 CFR 61.87(i)(16)(Landings, including normal and crosswind)
Private Pilot Test Candidate: 14 CFR 61.107(b)(6)(iv)<(Launches and landings)
Content
- Pointing the nose straight down the runway, using ailerons and rudder to compensate for the crosswind
- Using crab to get into position
- Not landing when the glider is in a crab.
Completion Standard
The lesson is complete when the learner consistently performs a smooth landing in a crosswind, touching down within a designated landing area, and stopping within 200 feet but short of a designated point.
