5.7 - Forward Slip with Airbrakes

Lesson Objective

During this lesson, the learner will learn how to use a forward slip in addition to airbrakes to increase your descent rate in the pattern.

Content

  • Use of airbrakes in addition to the slip for glideslope control
  • Maintaining constant pitch attitude
  • Removing the slip and closing the airbrakes halfway when intercepting the half-airbrake glide slope

Completion Standard

The learner will recover from being too high on final by using a slip with the airbrakes, while maintaining the desired airspeed within +10/-5 knots.
